Ask a Question

How do I review and accept/decline my financial aid award?

1 - From your Financial Aid Student Portal, click on the FINANCIAL AID option from the menu, or click on the REVIEW & ACCEPT FINANCIAL AID hyperlink in the Financial Aid box.

NOTE: In the GIFT AID section, you will see aid that cannot be modified. "Gift Aid" includes: Scholarships, Tuition Assistance, Grants, etc.

2 - Click on the VIEW DETAILS hyperlink to review Gift Aid details. Details for that item will then be displayed.

NOTE: The difference between GROSS and NET on the loan amounts is as follows: The Gross amount is the total loan amount you are responsible to repay. The Federal Government charges a “loan fee,” which is taken out of the Gross amount before the funds are applied to your student account. What is left after this federal loan fee is referred to as the “Net” amount.

3 - If you were “Offered” loans, you will be presented the statement below. You MUST read and acknowledge this statement. To do so, click the READ STATEMENT OF UNDERSTANDING button.

Once acknowledged, loans will appear (or will already be displayed if awarded, and in “Accepted” status).

4 - If “Offered,” you must take action on the loan. Click on the REVIEW AND UPDATE hyperlink.

5 - SELECT the appropriate radio button to Accept/Decline the offered aid.

NOTE: “Total Costs” can be used as a budgeting tool. Two components make up your estimated total costs: Direct Costs are what you can expect to pay directly to the university, and Indirect Costs are purchases you may need to plan for.

6 - Click on the SAVE CHANGES button.

NOTE: If “Accepted,” you do not need to take any action, unless you choose to DECLINE or REDUCE the award amount.

7 - SELECT the appropriate radio button to Accept or Decline the offered aid.

8 - Click the SAVE CHANGES button.

NOTE: If you were offered Subsidized loans, you must fully accept the Subsidized loan amount prior to modifying the Unsubsidized loan offer. Subsidized loans are interest free to you while enrolled at least half-time. Other "unsubsidized" loans accrue interest while you are in school.
